The New Zealand comedy hit The Breaker Upperers brings the laughs early and often, thanks to the dry wit — and effervescent chemistry — of writer-director-star duo Jackie van Beek and Madeleine Sami.
Their film feels marvelously shaggy around the edges – their personalities pop – until after a whiplash-funny first hour, they play it safe with an everyone-gets-a-hug Paul Feig-style climax.
The film is about two women cynical in love, setting up an agency to break couples up as a way to avoid letting go.
Do your research: you either will love this flick or walk out on it. Half of New Zealand is even very embarrassed about this movie, but we loved it ourselves at The Flicks! If you do not get Kiwi humor, this might not be your thang.
